The Middle East in general and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries - United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman - in particular have been experimenting with TCAM and its many wide-ranging practices in addition to the conventional western medicine.

A large number of herbal medicines have been officially registered with MOH and is being dispensed through the pharmacies. This current process of historical transformation from total reliance on orthodox Western medicine to partial shift onto TCAM related practices is marked by a social, economical and cultural resurgence in the sphere of medical practice in the region.
